Video Arts (Digital Filmmaking)
Video Arts students are guided to see with the eyes and spirit of artist-filmmakers; mastering how to apply their vision and passion to create high quality films using today's technology. We concentrate on learning and using successful filmmaking skills and techniques to entertain and take control of the audience (well, their senses and emotions at least).
Video Arts students use video cameras, non-linear editing programs, and a host of production and postproduction tools and software to produce digital short films of significant quality. Through lecture, research, examination, collaboration, and hands-on production, students develop and refine artistic and technological skills. Students produce numerous independent and group projects which convey their own personal vision in creative ways, using live action, computer animation, claymation, special effects, and more. A wide range of filmmaking equipment is available for students to use at school, or check out for location shooting. Video Arts students benefit from the expertise of film industry guest speakers, attending prestigious film festivals, and studying film history. They screen, analyze and critique a variety of student and studio films. Throughout their experience, Video Arts students participate in understanding human emotion and perception, developing meaningful connections with each other, their community, and the world around them.
